World Junior Hockey Officials To Visit Grand Forks

Grand Forks, ND and Thief River Falls, MN will host the World Junior Hockey Championships and the world will be watching. In many ways, the watching begins this weekend. Grand Forks and Thief River Falls will play host to a hand-full of high ranking dignitaries from USA Hockey and the Canadian Hockey Association.

The individuals who will be traveling to Grand Forks are instrumental in carrying out the process of the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2005. The hockey dignitaries include Art Berglund, Senior Director, International Administration, USA Hockey, Jim Johannson, Manager, International Activities and USOC Relations, USA Hockey, and Brad Pascall, Director of Communications, Canadian Hockey Association.

The members of USA Hockey and the Canadian Hockey Association will be on hand to discuss tournament details, and Seva Kukushkin will be doing an official site inspection on behalf of the IIHF of both cities and facilities to make sure they are in accordance with tournament guidelines Art Berglund’s involvement with international ice hockey competition spans portions of five decades, during which time he has managed more than 20 United States teams in a variety of tournaments worldwide.

Berglund served as USA Hockey’s director of national teams and international activities for 11 years before being named Senior Director, International Administration in 1996. Jim Johannson joined USA Hockey in the newly created position of Manager, International Activities and United States Olympic Committee Relations.

Johannson assists in handling USA Hockey representation by players, coaches and national teams in international competition. Brad Pascall oversaw the media relations for Canada’s Men’s and Women’s Olympic teams at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Brad is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and has served as media relations director for four World Hockey Championships.
