Toyota Hockey Challenge heats up Tri-City competition to determine local team traveling to Japan

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) has invited the Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo AAA Minor Bantam boys to participate in this year’s Toyota Hockey Challenge. The competition has already begun with six games currently being played across Waterloo Region, to determine the two top teams that advance to the Toyota Hockey Challenge Championship Game.

The winning team from the Toyota Hockey Challenge Championship Game, will travel to Japan during March Break 2004, for a cultural hockey exchange with the Tomakomai Allstars, sponsored by TMMC.

With just a donation of a non-perishable food item for the food banks, the General Public is invited to attend the Toyota Hockey Challenge Championship Game on December 10th,. Donations will also be collected for the family of Kyle Ouellette, whose life was tragically taken in a car accident on the way home from playing hockey in Kitchener.

Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo have been challenged to outdo each other in fan attendance. Fan support will be tabulated at the doors and the city with the highest attendance record will receive $1000 in sports equipment for their AAA Minor Bantam team.

All guests will be able to qualify for a variety of prizes to be drawn throughout the December 10th game. The prizes include Kitchener Rangers signed hockey sticks, a Fairview Mall shopping spree and a Toronto Maple Leafs overnight getaway.

March 2004 will mark the fourth time a local team from Waterloo Region has traveled to Japan for the exchange. A return visit by a Japanese team will be hosted in March.
