New Hockey League Launched, Addresses Many Of The Problems Plaguing Today's Minor And Adult Hockey Programs
Level Playing Field Sports Concepts Inc. officially announced today that it will launch a new hockey league for adults and children, designed to put the fun back into the game and address many of the problems that currently plague today's sports scene.
In recent years and in particular 2002, hockey has seen some major incidents that raise concerns that the game has crossed the line from fun, competitive, physical sport, to a barbaric win at all costs war. Hockey, for most, should be a simple game that is played for fun, physical activity and friendly competition. The JFFHL is unique in its approach to making hockey fun for it's participants. There is no other league in existence that offers what the JFFHL will offer its players.
A custom computer program had to be designed to scramble the rosters for each game in the schedule. Most hockey players have fond memories of throwing the sticks in the middle of the rink, splitting the teams up and playing shinny with their buddies, usually late at night or on an outdoor rink. No one was ever intimidated, intentionally hurt or screamed at by crazed parents and coaches. It was simply 'game on' and away you went, everyone looked forward to coming to the rink - this isn't always the way with today's game. Our unique system allows our players to recreate these fun times, while maintaining order and competition at a friendly level.
The concept was born when Chris Dyson, Founder of the JFFHL became upset when his then, 9 year old son, who was a hockey fanatic, informed him that he wanted to quit hockey before the next season started. After some prodding, Chris learned that his son was scared to death of the checking that was to be introduced to his division the next season. He had seen the larger players intimidate and intentionally try to hurt each other, and being one of the smallest players, he was scared of being hurt. This was heart wrenching to Chris who knew his son loved the game but was scared to play. Chris had seen similar problems in his adult leagues and he knew many players who no longer played for the same reasons. He decided there had to be other players who loved the game and simply wanted to play for the enjoyment of the game.
There are many adults and children alike who love hockey, have no aspirations of playing pro and enjoy friendly competition. The makeup of the JFFHL address' all of there needs and concerns by promoting fair play and camaraderie in a safe and fun environment. Hockey for all the right reasons! All games will be held at the Western Fair Sports Centre where the league already has in excess of 500 hours of prime ice time pre booked.
We&Mac226;ll feature some unique rules to speed up the game and add to the excitement and enjoyment aspect for all ages. Players must post a performance bond before playing and major infractions carry a monetary fine. Two points are awarded for assists and major prizes are awarded at a season ending banquet to the leader in this category. This helps promote the team concept and helps to spread the wealth around.
The JFFHL has partnered with the Children's Health Foundation and will donate a portion of each registration to children's hospitals. JFFHL's President, Chris Dyson holds a special place for this charity because he had several major heart surgeries as a child and still has a pacemaker implant, he credit's Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children for saving his life on many occasions. London&Mac226;s Source for Sports, the largest hockey retailer in South Western Ontario and Louisville Hockey, a major player in the hockey industry have seen Chris&Mac226; vision and joined the JFFHL as major corporate sponsors.
