USA Hockey Coaching Education Program And flexxCOACH Announce e-Learning Agreement

USA Hockey today announced an agreement between the organization's Coaching Education Program and flexxCOACH, an e-learning company specializing in youth sports. Beginning in September 2003, flexxCOACH will offer online recertification for qualifying USA Hockey-registered coaches.

The announcement was made by USA Hockey Executive Director Doug Palazzari (Colorado Springs, Colo.), USA Hockey Coaching Education Program Director Mark Tabrum (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and flexxCOACH Founding Member Keith Blase (Scottsdale, Ariz.). The USA Hockey Coaching Education Program offers five levels of certification, with Level 1 being introductory, and Level 5 being the most advanced.

All coaches must be certified at the appropriate level for the particular age group with which they are working. After earning Level 1 certification, coaches have three years to attend a Level 2 certification clinic and then have three subsequent years to achieve Level 3 status. After reaching Level 3, coaches must recertify at Level 3 within three years by attending a clinic, or continue on to the more advanced clinics of Levels 4 and 5. Now, with flexxCOACH, Level 3 coaches will have the additional option of recertifying online instead of attending a clinic in-person. The online recertification will include a video presentation from a highlevel coach and animated drills, as well as on- and off-ice instructional video footage.

The introduction of the online recertification will provide Level 3 USA Hockey-registered coaches with a new degree of convenience, accessibility and education, which will enrich their learning experience. We are very excited about the introduction of online recertification, said Tabrum. This will give coaches the flexibility to enhance their coaching skills on their own time and from their own home. This new technology is a step in the right direction as USA Hockey strives to be a leader in coaching among youth sports organizations.
